UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid Decide Not to Put More Restrictions for Christmas

The UK has confirmed 12,133 cases of the new coronavirus variant — Omicron. The health officials said that the real number is likely to be far higher than this. Due to increasing the number of Omicron cases in the UK, Andrew Marr asked the Health Secretary asked about possible measures to stop the spread of Omicron during the Christmas season. Sajid Javid, UK Health Secretary said that he would not be putting any more measures for now. He added that no guarantees in this pandemic and we are keeping everything under review.

The government and leaders are discussing the current situation in a Cobra meeting. BBC’s Andrew Marr asked Sajid Javid about the new restrictions or a lockdown before Christmas. The Secretary replied that they are not ruling out any coronavirus measures for now and there will be no lockdown.

The UK reported more than 80,000 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. In addition, in the last week, the country recorded many daily high records of coronavirus cases. The Sage (Scientific Advisory for Emergency) said that if we will be working in the same way with Plan B in future, daily hospital admissions could reach more than thousands.

Mr Javid said that the government is doing the analysis very seriously and plan with broader thinking to curb the increasing rate of COVID-19 cases. In the current Plan B, the England people need COVID-19 passes for events and have to wear masks in the public as mandatory. Further, the government urged them to work from home, if it is possible to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.

Similarly, Scotland is following the same Plan for the new Omicron variant. Plus, they limited the social contact to three households at a time for the Christmas festive season. Wales has declared the closure of nightclubs from December 27 to avoid further increases in the cases of coronavirus.

The London Mayor, Sadiq Khan said that the NHS is on the verge of collapsing if we do not bring more COVID-19 restrictions. We need to celebrate Christmas safely and follow the social distancing rules. If we are not following the safety measures, the cases will only go higher in the future.

Vaccines are helping us to slow down the rate of infections of coronavirus. The UK administered more than 9, 00,000 vaccines on Sunday, millions of people are getting their booster shots. The UKHSA said that seven people have died due to Omicron in England.

Other Countries Amid Omicron Chaos

The Netherlands has announced stricter lockdown before Christmas. Other countries in Europe also tightened the restrictions and imposed lockdowns to counter the spread of the Omicron variant. France also declared the emergency of the Omicron and imposed travel restrictions in the country to control the spread of the Omicron variant.
