WHO Says — Omicron Spreads Rapidly, Warned People to Socialize Carefully

People need to socialize carefully and follow safety measures, WHO said that after the record increase in the number of Omicron cases in the world. The UK government said that people should follow safety rules and wearing masks is mandatory, as the Omicron rises at unprecedented levels. Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged people to get their booster shots quickly to counter the increasing rate of the new coronavirus variant.

The PM and chief medical officer of England said that people should be more cautious around this festive season. The UK is struggling with record cases this Christmas, the public should avoid unnecessary events and meetings. PM Boris Johnson added that the government will not shut the pubs and restaurants, but people should be more careful while visiting these places. He gave the statement in Wednesday’s news conference.

BBC reported that Prof Chris Whitty also said that people should avoid mixing with people they do not have to, otherwise, the COVID-19 records would be broken due to the Omicron variant in the UK. On Wednesday, the UK reported more than 76,000 cases of coronavirus, which is the highest of this pandemic.

Prof Chris also added that the UK is dealing with two pandemics currently, i.e. Omicron and Delta; both variants will lead to the next wave of the coronavirus in the country.

BBC reported that schools in the UK are prepared for online learning for the next term, as due to increasing COVID-19 cases and children need to stay at home for safety measures. BBC added that more than 30 local authorities had already moved to online classes. They asked the children to take laptops at home before Christmas.

The Government said that the schools would stay open in January.
