UK Will Hit the Third Wave of Coronavirus in January, Study Warns

The UK is struggling with the increasing number of cases of the new variant — Omicron. Experts warned that due to the substantial increase in the cases, the third wave of COVID-19 would hit the country in the New Year. The scientists say if further restrictions will be not implied shortly, conditions will become more critical in the coming weeks. They added that it depends on the vaccines against the Omicron — the new strain of coronavirus. If they do not perform well in our defence, the death toll could range from 25,000 to 70,000 by the end of April 2022.
Experts said that there are many uncertainties in this study and many others linked this with worst-case scenarios of the coronavirus. Another study from the LSHTM scientists said that Omicron outcomes may vary in the future and there are many different possibilities.
In the current Plan B, some experts assumed that Omicron would be less severe for those who are vaccinated and have had their booster shots. Being jabbed by the booster shots of the vaccine will reduce the impact of the Omicron variant.
On Saturday, the UK announced a further increase of 54,000 new cases of the COVID-19. Among the increased cases 633 was identified as the new Omicron variant. However, experts say the real number of the new variant is much higher. Researchers are saying that this new strain is spreading more quickly and it is a dangerous situation. The number is doubling in less than 3 days and it is quite a concern for the healthcare systems.
The scientists said that if we do not take the right and effective measures, the healthcare system of the country would collapse. Hospitals and doctors or nurses are under great pressure and stress due to the increasing number of patients of the new variant.
Restrictions and Rules for the Omicron
People should start working from home to reduce the negative impact of Omicron on their health and wellness, Dr Rosanna Barnard, a researcher added. At the same time, people need to follow the mandatory mask rule and avoid visiting places. To avoid further stress on the healthcare systems, avoid Christmas parties if you can and follow social-distancing rules.
Experts added that people should get their booster shots; vaccines are the only best defence lines we had currently against the new Omicron variant. The Government added that if the new variant will reach the transmission levels higher than Delta, they would impose lockdown again in the country.
The UKHSA said that booster shots could decrease the risk of developing an infection by 75 per cent. People who are eligible for booster shots should take the jabs in the arms.
Studies show that the peak of the Omicron variant would cause more than 1,000 deaths in a day if proper measures will be now followed shortly. For more visit UK Sleeping Pill Health Blog.
