The UK Government removed the 11 African countries from its travel red list for COVID-19. The decision came after Health Secretary Sajid Javid said that the new Omicron variant spreads so much that listing countries on the red list does not make any point now.

The red list was again introduced in November after the new cases of the Omicron variant spread in the UK. However, the country’s government has said that they will remove the name of 11 countries from Wednesday at 4 am. Here are the names of the 11 countries in the travel red list:

· Angola

· Botswana

· Eswatini

· Zimbabwe

· Zambia

· Nigeria

· South Africa

· Namibia

· Lesotho

· Malawi

· Mozambique

The Health Secretary and other officials added that the UK has been reached to community transmission stage now. There is no benefit of keeping the countries named on the travel red list. Currently Omicron variant has spread quickly in the world, but we will maintain the safety and security instructions for international travel.

The red list countries have to stay in self-isolation for 10 days in the pre-booked and government-approved hotels. If any person tested positive, will have to stay in self-isolation.

The travel industry wants to remove the travel restrictions for everyone. However, people who already paid for the hotels, said they want that the government should pay their costs now.

Earlier, the Nigerian and other South African countries called “travel apartheid”, the addition of their names to the travel red list. Further, the travel industry added that the restrictions are affecting the businesses too.

In other news, the adults in the UK need a COVID-19 pass to enter clubs and other events. Whether it is a sports match or any other event, you will need a pass to attend them. The new rules from the government said the people need double-vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter the events.

With Labour Support, the plans for the COVID-19 pass were approved by the government. The House of Commons also supported the decision and added that masks are mandatory for the people. Similarly, the NHS people should have the vaccination.

People are registering themselves for the third booster shot. We are setting the new deadline for getting the booster shots by the end of this month, the Transport Secretary added.
