27 People Dead in the Channel Tragedy in the English Channel

Earlier 31 people were reported dead in the English Channel tragedy. However, Gerald Darmanin said that two people were rescued and one is still missing. Four people were arrested for crossing the Belgian border. The boat sank and at least 27 people drowned in the English Channel tragedy, BBC reported. UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he was appalled by what happened and the UK government would do everything to stop human trafficking.

Five women and a girl were on the list of dead people, France minister said. The International Organization for Migration added that this incident is the biggest loss in the English Channel after 2014, data shows.

On Wednesday, British Prime Minister Johnson agreed to step up for joint efforts to stop the Channel crossings with France’s Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron. He added that both nations would work together and stop the gangs that are putting human lives at risk in trafficking.

French and British government authorities are conducting the rescue operation after a fishing boat sounded the alarm on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities said that they would operate by air and sea to see if they can find anyone in the English Channel. At the Calais Harbor, a French volunteer organization is doing the rescue operation.

UK’s Boris Johnson added that the deaths were a disaster and the government will do anything to stop human trafficking. Prime Minister added that they would increase the support to France to stop the flow of migrants in the English Channel.

Home Secretary Priti Patel posted that deaths were a grim truth.

BBC added that politicians are blaming the smugglers for the loss of lives in the English Channel.

The inflatable dinghy incident is the deadliest since 2014 figures. Reports say that two people are in the ICU. Police arrested four people suspected of being linked to the drowning. At the Cobra meeting on Wednesday, the Prime Minister of the UK said that he suggested the French government work together to stop this trafficking.

The Prime Minister of France added that the UK has to stop politicising this issue for domestic gain. He added that before the boat sank, 34 people were believed to be on it. Authorities found only 31 bodies and two survivors. However, the French press reported the death toll to 27 in the Channel crossings.
